Workshops and advice for disaster recovery

Workshops and advice for Herefordshire businesses to plan for disaster

Have you ever considered the impact of severe weather conditions such as flooding on your business? Herefordshire has suffered its fair share of severe weather including heavy snowfall, cold icy temperatures and flooding in the past, thus organisations need to prepare for business interrupting events before it is too late.

Herefordshire Council in collaboration with Biscon Planning Ltd are offering a free awareness session to help organisations prepare for the worst. The event will take place from 8.00 – 9.30 Wednesday, 25 November 2015 and is being held at the Airport Lounge, Herefordshire Council, Plough Lane Offices, Hereford – HR4 0LE (Bacon sandwiches and refreshments will be provided on arrival.)

Speaking about the initiative Councillor Philip Price, cabinet member for infrastructure and a local business owner, said, “Recent incidents have shown us that it is critically important to be prepared for disasters beforehand. It is important that everyone can conduct their business as usual during emergency situation or crisis, especially smaller businesses as their employees or even the business owners themselves might not have the resources to keep their business closed for long, or even pay for the cost that may arise as aftermath. Through these sessions business owners will be able to learn good practices to mitigate the worst effects of disruptions such as flooding or blizzard conditions. I highly encourage business owners to participate in this event.”

The session will include advice and guidance from representatives from the Fire Service, Balfour Beatty Living Places, Environment Agency, Herefordshire Council and Biscon Planning advising on various aspects of responding to winter weather including role of the emergency services during flooding events, gritting (stockpiling salt and why certain roads are gritted), winter forecasting and weather warning systems, maintaining the road network – among many other topics.

There is also an opportunity to have 1-1 advice after the event on Business Continuity Planning so please stay after the event if you wish to discuss things further. If you would like to attend this free informative event, please reserve your place by visiting the Eventbrite website.
